Reality In Snow

Today is: December 29, 2009.
As you might be aware already. (note the date stamp above the title..) ;]

I'm sure everyone is extremely interested in my holidays and how they have been going! So, Christmas was fun with lots of good presents given and received on my part if I do say so myself. ^_^ I might have wished for a little more snow and a little less rain in the weather forecast though. But we have about an inch of the fluffy stuff now I think? Which is enough.. as much as I would enjoy a foot or more. ;P Winter, it demands snow. No snow, and my only enjoyment is lost as my face freezes off needlessly. I could just keep reiterating this but what use is there! I suppose there are a few aspects of freezing temperatures that can be useful even without snow. For instance, buckets of water+pavement=ice and FUN? or danger.. either way that's always worth a try. :P

So as I said before, today is the twenty-ninth! The new year is swiftly approaching. Gasp! Are we all ready?

Anyone have any resolutions prepared? Mine may regard:

• Eating healthier and exercising regularly. (my perpetual chocolate high has gone on long enough!)
  
• Reading more. I need to make a list of novels I want to read... and then read them :D
• Finding the time to paint or draw or sew or express my creativity somehow and using it.
• Being kind to all people! Just kidding, I do that already right?
• Posting. Regularly? Yes that might be a good idea. And finding entertaining things to write about.
• Improving my writing SKILLZ so that these coming posts might actually be interesting.. ;P
• Coming up with ways to express feeling besides using smiley faces.. on which I have become heavily dependent.. but what else is there?! Cleverly constructed phrases? psshhh. scoff* perhaps..
  

This Snowman Rocks

In 5 days it will be my birthday! Yay! In 6 it would be a month since my last post so I figured I should do something soon. The past two weeks have gone by really slowly (finally?) at least as I've experienced them. We've had a lot of homework assigned it seems in the past days, and the auditions for the musical which is Music Man this year at school have started up as well. I tried out on Monday, got a callback Tuesday, and now I wait. I doubt anything fantastic will be coming to me in the way of roles. But that's fine by me considering the stress I can imagine brought on with all the pressure to do well and memorize lines and music. Blegh!! I like an easy workload if its going to be on top of school work which I MUST ALWAYS FINISH! Anyway, continuing along the lines of my current obsession with getting homework done on/ahead of time I need to go study and finish up some things for tomorrow.

One last note: it is so cold outside and walking home today from the bus was NOT FUN. Freezing wind blowing in my face? No thanks. Please, if it's going to be cold, let it snow more.

Monotony + Unhealthy Food That Just Keeps Coming = my life as of late..

Goodness, again the weeks feel entirely too short and the weekends shorter. I think the pace at which the days and weeks speed by is starting to get to me.

This past Saturday I had to get up in the morning for the entrance exam for my private school option for highschool. Blegh. It took three hours, but I hardly had to interact with people and I suppose it ended quick enough. Then on Sunday we visited the public high school's open house and looked around. I don't like any of this thinking about highschool because I can't seem to form any sort of decision on where I'll go. It's stressful.

Now it is Monday and I wore pajamas to school for the first of this week's special themed spirit days. Fun right? Sure. I don't know, I mean, I enjoyed today sort of, but tomorrow is 80's Day. I know I won't be doing anything for that. Then we have Jersey Day, and on Thursday, Red & White Day. Personally I would have preferred another hat day, since we don't normally get to wear hats, and it's a pretty simple but fun activity to participate in. Mismatch day as well, again simple to do but fun.

Also, Friday was planned as Michael Jackson Day.
My response? "Wow. WHAT?!"
It just strikes me as sort of ridiculous...
Anyway, not even sure if that one is still going on though.

Textbooks = Appropriate Tornado Protection?

(just to explain the title, on friday we had a severe weather drill and had to sit against the walls protecting our heads with books.. yeah) Anyway..
My favorite season: FALL. ..and spring too, but it's fall right now so, YAY.

Halloween was lots of fun, I was a witch. Now it is November 7th and last week went strangely fast. (again.. what is it with this? am I just getting really good at zoning out every day?) Seriously, Friday felt like a Tuesday. Odd.

I have a lot of homework this weekend. :[ But I've already gotten some of it started/done, so yay for accomplishing stuff! Also, I need to get some interesting books to read. I'm feeling literature deprived. ..of course I also need to find time to read...

So. Over fall break my(the "family's") camera broke. Who knows why. Blegh. So now we have a new one! ^_^ It is gray brown.. not candy red like the old one, but who cares when this one isn't broken!

Let's see, anything else.. oh yeah, poor Spencer had to get up at 4:30 this morning for debate/speech team. He's doing Lincoln-Douglas debate in a meet (the school they're going to for the meet is two hours away, hence the early rising) ^_^ I'm looking forward to seeing how it went when he gets back. (at 8:30pm, what a long day)

And now my mother has returned to me with lunch from McAlister's. ^_^ Joy.

Hugs Are Valuable Just Like Sarcasm

It is FALL! Halloween is nearing! Excitement! Fall break was last week (Oct. 22-25) and my family went to the most wonderful New York City! It was great fun, doing touristy things, visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, sitting in Times Square, seeing Wicked on Broadway. :] I had a nice time. I'd definitely love to go back again sometime, although I have to wonder what it's like to live there. Probably pretty tiring. Maybe even more so than school! If you can believe that... Darn all this homework and such, I haven't been able to get to carving my pumpkins. :[ I shall be resolute in getting to it tomorrow!

We Are Dropping Like Flies

Again. Another week zips by! A little different this time though because I'm home from school this Friday, sick with a sore throat and slight fever. Sigh. I've spent the day sleeping, coughing up my insides, and drinking tea with honey. The first and third activities helped a bit. I dislike being absent from school. I guess I'm just a nerd like that, though mainly I'm just not a big fan of figuring out and doing all the work I miss. Work. Blegh. Oh look at that, seems it's time for another nap.

If You Want To Destroy My Sweater

This week went by like... "BOOM. Whoa, it's Friday?" Exactly like that. Of course, it was an uninteresting week. Let's see. Laura, Chris, and I worked together on a science project where groups had to construct a holder that would keep an egg from breaking from a long drop. OUR EGG DID NOT BREAK! Yay. :] Other than that, on Friday the band had an event planned that happens every year where we play with the other middle school bands and the high school marching band before a football game at the high school. It rained all Thursday and Friday. The event was canceled. Darn. Oh well, at least it was nice this weekend which allowed me to have a campfire! Yay campfires! :] And my only homework this weekend is a book report where I need to describe my book to the class and write a short summary, that I'm done with! YAY! :] Now... Now, I need to find something interesting and productive to do..

I Will Set Fire To It/Him!

We only have two weeks left in this school quarter. Can we really almost have a fourth of the year over with? Wow.

Besides this quarter going by in an oddly quick way, this past week did the same. I was anticipating running the 1.8 mile in gym class all week, but it was again avoided. (we were supposed to run it Monday, I think? I'm not sure, but it just keeps getting pushed away for our class)Anyway, the 1.8.. not so bad, yet I'm not looking forward to when it comes. I need it though. I need all the good grading I can get in gym frankly, as I have a B+. Or something like that. It's bothering me. I cannot possibly end this quarter with a my only B grade in wellness. I refuse!! The reason I have it is that my darn wellness(gym, health class, p.e., whatever) teacher's tests over sports such as football, tennis, and rugby are all just 10 questions so when you miss only 2 or 3... it's not good. Blegh. Is it really all that important that I understand the rules of these sports? I mean, if these were tests over health information, facts about the human body or staying fit, well then it would be a different story. But sports? I exercise and put forth effort when we play in gym, shouldn't that be enough? Anyway, enough of that rant. I've been complaining about it for some time now, and I will accept it's my fault I missed the problems on these tests that have cost me my grade. (even though I studied A LOT, and stilled failed, for the tests following my first blunder)

Now. It's almost 12.. Why am I up this late?! It's Friday! But I really should sleep.. And sleep I will! I think I may get up at 11am.. On Sunday. That seems sufficient.

Is This How Pack Mules Feel

It's the weekend. I have a literary analysis to write on the first parts of the Odyssey, practice on my flute to be done, a technical writing document I would like to finish or work on a little, and a bit of studying for a science test. This week I've just felt somewhat heavy on the homework. It isn't too much this weekend, but over the course of the week it seems I've just had a lot to get done. For instance, in social studies we had to make part of a newspaper as if it were made in America in 1793 with the class in two groups headed by two specific team leaders. We were competing to make a better newspaper section that would move on to be judged with those created by the other teams. I ended up as the "team leader" in this Apprentice style project. Blegh. It was additional work, and I am quite happy to be done with that now. We also had a project in science on Friday that we needed to bring in various materials for so we could build an efficient device that could roll down a ramp and achieve a certain distance. Also, in math we are going through a chapter in our Geometry book as a project where we need to design examples of rotational and reflectional symmetry, tessellations, knot designs, optical art, and more geometrical designs of that sort. Aaaand in yearbook I'm designing the two band pages with my partner Sarina. We've had to do quite a bit of work to figure out when we can interview the band teachers and get their pictures because they aren't available when we have our yearbook period.
Anyway, this shouldn't be so long.. I'll make my weekend quick(not that it's all that lengthy in the first place): working on homework today, having brunch tomorrow with family, more homework, and oh look it's Monday already. That's pretty much how it's going to go.

Muffins. I Eat Them.

Feeling somewhat out of sorts. It may be a result of the lingering sickness. I still have a sore throat and some congestion. Guh. At least last week went by quickly. I'm glad it's the weekend, though I know that won't stay long either.
Last night we went to dinner at Chili's with my grandparents. They're visiting this weekend from Florida for a friend's surprise 70th birthday party. My grandpa used to play jazz with a group (he plays the trombone ^_^) and they're playing a few songs for the event. Spencer was originally asked to play with them because they needed an alto sax(although he hasn't played in 2 years...), and now my cousins Cara(trombone) and Kelsey(trumpet) are performing also. How fun! Of course, being a flute player, there's no part for me. pout* :P I think I'll be content with just watching the show.
Also, momma got me some banana nut muffins from Meijer. Yay!

Later: That did not go well.. Spencer ended up not performing. :(

The Appropriate Time to Get Sick

Thank you labor day weekend. Thank you for your extra day off from school! Unfortunately, I may spend Monday ill, as I seem to be developing something. Hopefully it won't get too much worse: sore throat, stuffy nose, slight temp, anything more and I may just fall apart! ;] It seems to be going around though. I think Spencer gave it to me(he got very sick on Thursday and Friday) which, if that's so, means I'll end up with a high fever tomorrow :( I am going to do my best to get better. So, on another note, it's practically fall. Insane. Practically. Sort of. Yeah. I looooove fall. I think my favorite times of the year are fall and spring. They're the transition sort of seasons. The pleasant in betweens of summer and winter.
Some of the other reasons I like fall though:

• You get to start wearing sweaters and jeans and such, I like that kind of warmth more than just being hot. (unless it's because I'm laying in the sun) Like, when you're chilly you can just put on a jacket, but when it's hot out you can only fan yourself and try to cool off.
• Pumpkin pie, apple pie, thanksgiving type foods, warm soup, and all the other great yummy foods that are specific to fall.
• The LEAVES are so pretty! In so many different colors! And then they all fall off and the trees appear so desolate and bare, which looks way cool.
• It's my last chance to be outside a lot before I get sick of freezing in the winter weather.
• The season just feels warm and fuzzy to me, with warm colors like burgundy, orange, yellow, brown, it's like a total feel good season. If chocolate were a season it'd be fall.
• That chocolate thought reminds me: CANDY CORN, if I didn't love all candy equally candy corn would be one of my favorites. ;P

Also, last night we watched Mr. Holland's Opus. ^_^ It is a very good movie.

New Watson Likes Jam

I looked around the library/music room at the books today and leafed through a few poetry collections. I also read Dale Carnegie's "How To Win Friends and Influence People" of which we have two identical copies for some reason. I shall now work at, among other things, smiling more often and being a better listener. Other than that we went shopping yesterday, and ran some errands today. By we I mean of course myself and my mother; Spencer generally spends his weekends in a state of 2/3 sleep and 1/3 computer.

And now I present, by inspiration of the poetry books I was looking at, a poem:

Today's sky is painted in blues and grays
Light and clear, it's brushed with only a few wisps of cotton white and silver lining
The grass is green, bright with rays of sun, shining with dew
The trees sway, a song in the wind

It's PI In The Sky People!...

Okay.. well, I haven't made anything.. We picked up my art from the fair yesterday though. And now I have math homework and flute to practice.. I will make something!!! Eventually.. Every day I make/put together a fashionable/cute outfit, and then I wear it to school. Does that count? :P Right now I'm working on my group's theme for the yearbook. Maybe I'll post a picture or two.

I Also Have Three Hats

So, today was.. nice! I walked on the monon, and although at first it was a slightly (surprisingly) windy/chilly it got QUITE sunny and pleasant after awhile. I also finished up all my homework, what little of it that there was. Tomorrow I think I will bake something, or sew a stuffed animal. Or perhaps I shall paint. We'll see, and then I'll post about it! Because I can't seem to think of anything else to say right now.. I think I should get to sleep before I begin to ramble.

Is It Always Like This

Tomorrow is Friday! This week seems to have gone by fast, but I guess that's just how I've experienced it. Nothing too memorable around to remind me that yesterday wasn't anything more than a Wednesday. So this means the second week of school is almost done! Whooo. Oh yeah, I don't think I've mentioned yet that one of my paintings received honorable mention at the state fair. :) Yay!

There Were Birds In The Sky

What a beautiful day is was today! Hot albeit, but still quite nice. I sat in the sun, swam, went to the library, visited the post office, looked around a furniture store and spotted some pieces I dearly wish I could call my own, had leftover pizza for lunch, went to meijer, got some panda express(yum orange chicken!), and then came home again to relax. Too bad there isn't anything good on tv tonight, at least as far as I know. Maybe we'll have a little campfire.. Either way today is Saturday, and I SURVIVED THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL! Whoo. Claps for Gemma! Yeah, I'm surprised that it's actually going fairly well despite having math homework, map quizzes, and that sort of thing to do already. Also, it seems the school musical tryouts are quickly approaching... Must prepare for that.. :)

Today was, an okay day. I mean, it was the first day of school so it can't really get much more than okay. Turns out all my teachers are pretty cool though, and everything is going to be a-ok!
I really don't have much else to report..
The grandparents are leaving tomorrow though :( back to Florida for them!

So Much So

Well folks, I'm overheating for no apparent reason, but don't be alarmed. Meh, surely there is an answer to this problem... The fan I just turned on seems to be helping. But really, I'm melting here. Maybe it's the long hair? ....the office is pretty muggy right now, it also smells like feet.. and dog.. obviously not very pleasant. Anyway, it's off to registration for me tomorrow morning! How very exciting. Hopefully it won't take too long. Truthfully though, I'm quite looking forward to finding out my classes and team this year. All the sooner so that I may complain about them... Nah, really I'm going to try keeping a positive attitude towards this school year. We'll see how long that lasts...

My Inner Waffle

Food

1. Peaches - oh dear sweet peaches... I love them. Especially when they're so ripe they practically ooze juice when you cut them. Mhmmm. Delicious.

2. Either spuds or yams. Both please me very much. Mmmm baked potato with cheese and bacon bits... Or McAlister's country potato soup... When it comes to sweet potatoes, I usually have those heated and mashed with brown sugar and butter. It's practically dessert!

3. Steak. Hands down.. or maybe ribs.. I could never go vegetarian, I love meat too much. ^_^

4. Sharp Chedder - sliced with crackers? Good snack.

5. 2% Milk - My drink of choice. Milk is my water. Coming in second would be most likely be sweet tea. It's more refreshing I suppose, better for a hot summer day.

6. Cinnamon, I know not very creative, but it's great. Cinnamon sugar on cut up apples, cinnamon toast, cinnamon in chocolate cake, cinnamon rolls, cinnamon cinnamon cinnamon! Such a useful spice.

7. Nutella! Delicious halzenuty chocolatey spread. Of course, we don't spread it on anything at my house, we find nutella is best eaten in spoonfuls. :)

And now, I'm off to take a walk and maybe eat something because this seems to have made me a bit hungry....

Fuzzy Blue Lights

Today is the perfect kind of day, the previous night was stormy, damp and cloudy in the morning, and sunny in the afternoon.

I turned in my four paintings for the state fair today! Yay! If you're going to the state fair, go see the paintings in the Home and Family Arts building. ^_^ There was already a lot of cool stuff there when we stopped by to drop off my pieces.

It's hard to believe we have registration for school on the 4th of August. I don't want to think about it, but I can't quite help myself. The summer has gone fast. Middle school has gone fast. Pretty crazy! Hopefully the school year will pass quickly also. I'm mostly looking to enjoy this coming year of education. That's all I can really hope for. ;D

A Potato Day

So, not much going on I suppose. Grandpa came home from the hospital today after having his surgery on Friday, so he's recovering well. Other than that I've been playing with the doggies and painting. This year for the state fair I'm entering four pieces of artwork in the Youth Art section, which are all still somewhat in the midst of creation. Ah, darn you procrastination. Hopefully I can get them done in the four days I have left before taking them over... I suppose we'll find out. I mean, summer is really flying by, I can hardly believe we're already at July 21st. Enjoy every moment people, lest you regret how your summer was spent.

And now for some artwork(if you could call it that):

This first painting is of my cousin Kelsey. (I took the original reference picture when she was asleep on the bus back from Chichen Itza in Mexico) It's sort of pop artsy don't you think? I'm debating whether or not to paint the background another color, if I did it would probably be a very light lime green or light light pink/purple.

This painting, took me a LONG time to make. The heart is a complicated thing you know. ^_^
I quite like how this one has turned out.

Then there is this painting of a house, it's kind of sloppy, but I think it looks cute.

The Icky Variety

The grandparents are nearing! They'll be here this evening, yay! Also, our pool has pink slime. It's kind of gross. All over the bottom of the pool and on the steps and sides there's this pink filmy gunk and I had to use the pool brush to shift it and brush it off of everything. Now that that's done we'll shock the pool, but three times the usual dosage or something like that. Apparently this is a bacteria rather than an algae that is attacking our pool (it's not really attacking, more just getting all over and looking pink) and it's supposed to be difficult to get rid of. Hopefully we won't have too much trouble, although we can still swim in the pool with the slime there.

Beauty Is Pain

I now have braces on my top teeth. Joy. It didn't take too long and I'm starting to get used to the feeling of tightness, but I still feel weird about them. And I'll have them on for 18 months if not more. Fun right? I guess if 18 months is what it stays at I'll be lucky. Spencer was supposed to have his for 22 months and now he's having to continue so he'll end up having them for three years. Of course, the likelihood is that I'll continue longer also because we both have an impacted canine(both of my canines on top are impacted actually) so we both have to have surgery to attach a chain to said teeth to tighten to the braces. Spencer had to get surgery twice, it didn't quite work out the first time. Part of the reason Spencer is going longer is also that his canine tooth is coming in backwards, so the part that should be facing the inside is in front. I may have the same thing. It's really kind of interesting with our teeth, because my mom had an impacted canine as well as her sister, and now Spencer has one, and I have two. :( On another braces related note I chose to have clear opaly elastics rather than having colors because I figured it would be less noticeable and I'm glad I did. I actually kind of don't mind how the braces look.

Stars and Stripes and Storms

Yay! It's the fourth of JULY! Fireworks! Fest! Fun! Oh boy! And, seeing that it is the day we celebrate our independence as a country it is only right to be decked out in red white and blue. Of course, I have no red clothing. Tons of blue and white but no red. Can you believe that? I sure can't. I don't know why I don't have any, but either way I'm wearing a dark pink shirt instead with red mardi gras beads. In other news, it isn't sunny today. In fact, it's rather overcast and somewhat chilly/breezy, incase you hadn't noticed, or are in a different area than I. And it's supposed to rain, how unfortunate. I hope they don't cancel any of the fireworks events going on. In any case, Happy 4th of July!

Back Home Agaaaain ♫

We just got home, having driven the past two days from Cape Cod. Overall it was a great trip, although it did rain a lot while we were there. But that was made up for by the fact that we went shopping, and saw the movie Up, which was a great movie, very cute although extremely sad at the beginning. We also took a high speed ferry to Nantucket on one of the nicer days. We went to the Whaling Museum there as well as some other places, but really, the whaling museum was pretty cool, lots of interesting facts, as well as a staircase to the top of the building which looks out on one of the piers. After that we got lunch at this sandwich shop without any seating and ate it on a bench across the street. That was a fun day. :) In the last days of our visit, my Aunt Glenda arrived and we visited at her house. When we first went and had dinner, there was a bit of a storm and we saw two full rainbows side by side. I have a few good pictures, but none really show the two together. But anyway, we all thought that was pretty neat.
Now that we're home, I'm planning on walking/jogging with Winston more, and walking on the monon. Which reminds me, my grandparents are coming up around July 11th, and they're bringing Bentley(their adorable golden doodle)! Yays!! My grandpa is having surgery and they were previously going to do it in New York but he'll have to wait 3 to 4 weeks to recuperate before heading home so instead they're having it here and they'll be staying with us. Yay! It's nice having my grandparents in town, plus I'll get to walk Winston AND Bentley. ^_^ I also need to do some painting. My fingers are itching for creativity right now.

One more thing, I can't believe all the famous people dying. Rest in peace Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, and Billy Mays. Interestingly enough, Billy Mays and Michael Jackson were both 50, and they're the two I still can't believe died. We shall miss all of these recently fallen celebrities.

To Geneva!

I'm leaving for Cape Cod right now! ...in my car, with my dog, and my family, for 5 hours until lunch, then 6 more hours. Oh boy. :) So long!

Instead I Sleep

The days seem to be flashing by so quickly, one moment I'm sitting in bed reading in the early morning, by the next it's practically dinner already. I need to get my hours of service for NJHS this summer eventually, and I'm not really sure what to do. Maybe I'll pick up trash in a park or something. That or there's this project my mom mentioned that her friend had done with her daughter and a church group where you help fill packets of rice and nutrients for people in third world countries, I think it's with the red cross. Anyway, I'll figure something out.

It's All Toilet Paper To Me

AAAAugh. It is raining, and I can't sleep. I strongly dislike not being able to sleep. When I say "I can't sleep" I seriously cannot. Sometime if I go to bed way too late and can't fall asleep right away, I'll end up tossing and turning the whole night. I went to bed at twelve and by one o'clock I still wasn't falling asleep. I think I eventually went to sleep around 2 but then woke up again soon after because it started to storm. And of course, usually if I don't get to sleep at the beginning of a storm then I be able to for awhile. So now, here I am, awake but tired, early in the morning, and it's dark and raining outside, and I'm hungry. But of course, I can't go downstairs or walk around much, lest I wake up Spencer or Mom, or Winston. Anyway, I guess I'll mention that my grandmother and I went to an auction on Tuesday(I just realized today is Thursday... I cannot believe it's already June 11, this is crazy) where they were auctioning off the possessions of this woman who'd evaded taxes and embezzled and as a result had become wealthy, and now she's in jail for five years or something. So, the auction was pretty interesting, she had a ton of stuff. And it was all super expensive, there was a pair of mother of pearl salt and pepper shakers that cost $160, there was also a large matching mother of pearl bowl(imagine what the bowl would've cost), and five or six decorative mother of pearl balls(bigger than a softball but smaller than a soccer ball) that would've been sitting in the bowl. They all ended up auctioning separately because they only found out there were matching pieces when they were pulled out to sell. (the shakers went for $50, the bowl around $100, and the balls sold around $100, everything went really low) A lot of matching sets ended up selling separately because everything was unsorted and pretty chaotic, you could hardly notice a bowl on one table that matched a plate on the other. The place where they held the auction was full of her furniture and art and other things(picture frames, clocks, glass art, dinnerware, pots and pans, faux flower arrangements, and tons more) and this wasn't even the only sale. There had been a previous auction of some of her stuff, and still after this one that we went to they're going to have an auction selling her clothes and jewelry and purses. Anyway, I didn't end up buying anything, although I could just kick myself because at the beginning, and everything was selling at really good prices, a cultured pearl necklace sold for only $7.50 and I was about to bid on it, but I didn't and I should have!! Gah! Oh well. My grandma ended up buying two large(and heavy) framed photographs. And she got them for a good price, each piece cost $320 originally, she got them both for $175. But now there is the matter of getting them back to Florida. We'll see how that goes.

I Need Strawberries

Well, let's see, on Thursday we had our carpets cleaned so we had to stay overnight at a hotel while they dried. Then on Friday we got back and worked on putting all the furniture back. The house was in quite a state of disarray. Oh, I also made two stuffed animals and a fingerpuppet. On Saturday morning we went to some of the garage sales in the Woodland Springs neighborhood sale and got 8 items for only 5 dollars, yay! I got a hair straightener for $1. Of course, it's not like I really need it, I never do anything to my hair that involves time and heat. I like to avoid the everpresent possibility of burning myself. Then after the garage shopping I lazed around and made brownies. Later, at 4, we went to my cousin Joe's graduation open house. Then when we got home I plopped myself in bed and took a nap. Then I got hungry, got a brownie, turned on the tv, watched random shows and melted my brain a bit, and went to bed. Now it is Sunday, and I'm going to go eat breakfast. Today I'm going to make sure I swim and walk on the monon. I also need to get strawberries because we have cool whip and nothing to dip in it.

Got You Numbered

So far the summer is going good. Yesterday we went to the optometrist for a check up, we went to a new clinic to see if we wanted to change optometrists, and it took FOREVER. When we got there at 2:45 Spencer went first and mom went with him so I was left sitting out in the waiting area. For a long time. Okay, it was about 15 minutes so that wasn't too bad, but I got very bored. And they didn't even have magazines to read. So I spent the whole time letting my mind wander... and counting. I counted 72 pairs of glasses and 15 pairs of sunglasses (the selection of frames to try on sat on the other side of the room), which means 174 lenses total, I also counted: 6 chairs, 7 counter tops, 21 windows, 3 potted plants, 3 doors, and 56 checkers on the small race flag that was propped up on the desk. After staring around the room for that long I think I have about every single detail of it ingrained in my mind. Then it was my turn, turns out my prescription changed only a little bit and I have no astigmatism at all. Spencer on the other hand, poor guy, one of his eyes is shaped like a football. His eyes are also apparently very irritated and red or something, allergies they said. Of course, he didn't even notice. I also ended up trying to put in a contact. It went in after a little trouble, but it took me a long time to get out. Like, five minutes long. But anyway, I now have contacts to wear, of course I have to work on getting them in and out some more. Then after my check up we came out and picked out new frames. That's really what took the longest time. We finally left at 5:30. That took almost THREE HOURS!!! I was so hungry when we left! I'm hungry now. So I'll just make the rest of this quick. Today: I did pretty much nothing. The only worthwhile activity I accomplished was that I painted a birdhouse.

Also: our power went out while I was writing this post, and it finally came back on sometime during the night. So this wasn't actually published on Tuesday. So yeah.

Driving Rain

That was a pretty frightening storm last night. I mean, it wasn't that loud or anything, but the tornado warning freaked us out. But ah, the main fear was when we drove through it. Do you recall that I mentioned we were going to dinner with the cousins? Well, we met them at a restaurant in Thorntown, why we traveled 45 minutes just to eat dinner I do not know, and we left around 8:15. As we were leaving the restaurant it was raining, and guess what, a tornado warning siren was going off. So we get to the car and turn on the radio trying to decide what station to listen to for weather, while overhead the sky is gradually darkening. Now it was pouring and we were driving along, getting scared and all that, and it starts to hail. Big loud hail. By this time mom was calling my Aunt Gloria in Zionsville to see if she could check the weather for our area. Instead, our cousin Harrison picked up, he said she wasn't there and checked the weather online for us. So, now the hail had stopped and the rain had lessened a bit but it was still very dark and ominous. We now knew from the radio that the storm was coming southeast and that in Boone County and Marion County funnel clouds had been seen. Great. We were in Boone County. GREAT. So we were in front of or in the midst of a big storm and we were traveling east trying to get away from it. Then my Uncle Hugh(husband to Gloria) called back and it started to hail and rain again so we pulled off. Keep in mind, we're in ruralish Indiana and it's just us, some other cars, and the occasional passing barn. The hail stopped off pretty quickly so we pulled back out and kept going. Most of the trip it was like that, rain/rain and hail/less hail/less rain/more rain again/hail again, and so on. Also, look to the north and it wasn't too bad, just a bit cloudy and darkish, there was even a small bit of blue sky every so often, but look to the south and it was dark. Dark and gray and scary. So then what do we do? We turn south on 421. And guess what, more rain and hail. The rain was so loud and threatening, slapping against the side of the car while the hail smacked the roof. Finally when we were getting closer to home, I'm thinking, "okay so we're good, we're almost there". And then we hear the report that Southeast Hamilton County has a tornado warning. Now wait a minute, that's where we were headed. So instead of going further into a storm we turned on 146th rather than 116th. Anyway, we eventually got home safe and sound after that, if not a little frazzled. We all went straight down to the basement of course. When we turned on the weather and saw the radar we realized we'd driven right through the storm. Fun. Of course, there was only one report of an actual tornado touching down and that was in Lapel, which is what, like 20 miles away from us. Now let me say, this story does not do our little car ride justice, we were really panicking what with the wind and rain and hail and the shaking car and the fact that sometimes we could hardly see thanks to the mist and darkness. What an ordeal.

But now it's sunny out and nice today, and I'm going for a walk. ^_^

Cherries and Sprite

The school year has ended and it's finally summer, I am so pumped! I feel so free! So what are you all planning to do with this glorious summer? Personally, I just want to make sure I don't waste it. Many summers I have spent worthlessly lazing around accomplishing nothing. Nothing. It's a shame really. This time though, I'm going to do as much as I can. (or at least I'll try) We'll see how that goes. I'll definitely be working in a lot of swimming, it's nice to have the pool open again. I'm looking forward to lots of art and sewing and that sort of thing too. Even though our last day of school was just Thursday, it feels really good to have all this free time finally. ^_^ Today I had a truly painful migraine in the morning so the first part of my day was spent in a dark room trying to sleep it off. Luckily that subsided in the afternoon so I headed outside and lounged in the hammock for awhile in the sun. Nice. I also did my nails, it's actually been awhile since I last painted them. Anyway, I have to head off, we're going to dinner with my cousins and I need to catch Spencer so we can gel his newly shortened hair before we go. ;P

In This Infinite Universe

The sun is shining bright and happy through the window into an otherwise dark office. Today is a good day. It's spring and everything is green and happy, we have only 5 school days left to attend, I took the core 40 exam test for algebra(which I was stressing out over) yesterday and today so now that's finished(turns out it wasn't too bad at all), and the only thing I have to do tonight is study for two tests tomorrow. Yay. I'm so extremely excited for the end of the school year. Hurrah! Of course, my days will lack structure and it's unlikely that I'll accomplish anything of importance over the summer other than art, if that even, but that's the point of summer right?

Nature From The Pastel Cabin

The camping trip was quite successful. We had campfires, went hiking, and did this adventure course tower activity that involved a rock climbing wall, ropes crisscrossed with a rope net at the top to climb up, and some other climbing courses. In all it was a lot of fun. On the hike we went to see a hollowed out tree that a turkey vulture had laid her eggs in. There were some feathers and two pretty blueish eggs with brown speckling on the ends. Very cool. We also saw a lot of these red birds with black wings that were about the size of finches. We couldn't figure out what species they were so I just looked up the description and I'm pretty sure they were Scarlet Tanagers. One more bit of nature we found was a luna moth sitting on the railing of the camp's main cabin area. It was fairly interesting to get to see, even though it didn't move at all for most of the day it was a very pretty little creature. Anyway, the trip was great and we had many animal sightings. Also, I stayed in a cabin that was painted a pleasant yellow on the inside, while some other girls in our troop were in a cabin that had an interior of light pink with a dark peptobismol pink trim which was a bit overwhelming.

You Want Toast With That?

Well, I'm off to go camping in half an hour. We're going to this weekend camp thing along with some other girls in my Girl Scout troop. I hope it doesn't rain, or if it does may it happen overnight. I'm looking forward to going because we're doing this up in the air rope obstacle course thing, so that should be fun. I'll be sure to post how everything turns out when we get back. Which, by the way, we get back on Mother's Day unfortunately so my mom will have to wait till next weekend for breakfast in bed. In other news, I have a band concert coming up this Tuesday. Also, track is over. I don't miss it all too much. Anyway, I've got to go help in loading the car now.

Looking Ahead

Have you ever had a tickle in your throat and you just absolutely cannot get rid of it no matter how much you cough? Needless to say that's what's up with me right now. What a bother.
So, 24 days left of school. It's going quick.
And next week we have ISTEP... fun. I do like the lack of class and homework that comes with it though. Plus, this coming week is supposed to be all multiple choice testing and stuff. Easy and mind numbing. Sounds good to me.

Don't Wake Me Up

I absolutely adore days like this. It's sunny, cool but not freezing, and it rains a little every so often. Everything just seems so bright and fresh. Tomorrow we have an away meet for the rest of the team that didn't go to the meet for varsity today. Fun!
I have homework to get to now. Math test tomorrow. Sigh* I need a nap.
This morning around 5:15(I normally get up around 7) the back door blew open and set off the alarm. I was pretty disoriented and in a half awake half asleep sort of state. I'm not exactly sure why, but for some reason I was wondering how we would know what time to go to school since we got up at the wrong time. Anyway, I did kinda get back to sleep. But I am now tired, missing that hour of sleep I lost. I can't wait till the summer. I love weekends and their leisure so much, but they pass far too quickly.

And Here We Are Again

These are the major topics in my mind as of late:
Home again. School. Friends. National Junior Honor Society. Track. Milk. Tired. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
Soon, I hope to empty that mix and replace it with:
Summer. Home. Art lessons. Vocal lessons. Swim. Run. Walk. Freedom. Friends. Poetry. Rollerblading. Winston. Sewing. Etc.

Seven more weeks of school now, I can do this. Hopefully. I can hardly believe it's the 4rth quarter already. I mean, I guess I'm getting ahead of myself here, we're not really that close yet, but even the thought of summer is extremely comforting. It's only, what 30 or so actual days of school? I'm fairly excited because I'm planning on taking art lessons and vocal lessons this summer! :) Just once a week, it'll be nice to add a little commitment to my summer.

On another note, I have lots of math homework and I need to practice my band. I'm also illustrating a children's book for Spencer that he has to do for English. Yep, spring break is definitely over.

At Least It Didn't Vaporize

Oww. Having spent the past two days at the beach for very long periods of time I somehow have a triangle of red red sunburn on one shoulder, a stripe of it on the other, and some not-too-bad sunburn all around the chest. Ouchee. I've looked up some sunburn remedies and after much investigating I've decided to dab tea on the burn as suggested by numerous sites. So far it has helped a little. I hope everyone is enjoying their vacations as I am! ;) Florida is nice, is it raining much in Indy? I'm very full of crackers and peanut butter, and chips with guacamole. And now I'm off to reaply my tea.

Splendiferous

Yaaaaay! Yay Yay Yay! Leaving in an hour for the airport! Yay! Soon I'll be in Florida! Wooh! But not only that, I've accomplished something extremely important to me today, be proud! Also, I love thunderstorms, it rained pretty hard last night and it was fabulous! Anyway, I have to go get my shoes packed and get ready to go. I hope you all have a great Spring Break!

Must Get Cookies

Yesss, so very close we are! Only tomorrow left, then SPRING BREAK! And track is optional so I'm probably not going to go, I'm lazy. On Monday we did the mock meet running. I ran the 100, 200, and hurdles. I feel like I probably could have done a bit better on each of them, but it has me looking forward to the rest of the season. We got our uniforms yesterday, and I got a nice newish red one. Joy! I didn't enjoy having to wear the old faded uniforms last year. Today we did field events and obviously I tried the discus. It went okay, but I have a lot to work on. I'm not all that good at it(or at least not as good as a lot of other people who did discus) but Mr. Carter(spanish teacher Mr. C obviously) really seems to think I can improve. I think I can do better too, I guess, but it seemed like my throws were just getting worse today. Anyway, on another note, I love cream cheese on bagels, and storebought cookies with the thin hardish icing on them, like the ones from Kroger. I also love chocolate milk, and cheese with crackers. Sorry, I've been eating a lot lately, and I'm craving food right now. And I can't get my mind off spring break! So close! I just absolutely cannot wait! Yay!

Eagerly Waiting

Track this week hasn't been very strenuous. Of course, I say that and I'll probably have to run 3 miles tomorrow or something. The main reason we haven't been working too hard is that we're working on field events so I haven't done much running. So far I've worked on shot put(21ish feet so far), hurdles, and discus(40ish feet). All of which I thoroughly enjoy. I'm really glad I tried shot put and discus this year, I never really got to them last year. Anyway, track's been great, and though the first week was pretty tiring, I was/am out of shape, I feel way more exercised already so it's getting easier. We have a mock meet next week which I'm looking forward to, I want to see how I'm doing in comparison with everyone else. And now we have spring break coming in nine days! I CAN'T WAIT!!!! I need a break, not that anything's too stressful or crazy right now, I mean track stress has already gone down a bit. I feel like the exercise I'm getting is really helping my attitude because everything seems pretty good right now. Anyway, I'm super excited for spring break, especially since I'm going to Florida. !!! :D So happy! I LOVE going to my grandparent's place in Florida. Beach sand and sun here I come!! ^_^ Still, nine days to wait.

Rain Come Any Day

I loooooove it when it rains!! Especially with thunder and lightning. Water collecting in puddles, the splash and patter of droplets meeting house and ground, it so absolutely wonderful. Today's little storm also got me out of having a full track practice so that was also nice. Tomorrow we're picking up my grandparents from the airport and that alone is great, but the added bonus is that it turns out I'm gonna leave school a little early and have to miss track for it. Also important, I have a band concert/competition on Saturday. Yay! Anyway, I have quite a bit of work to do which I've yet to start, various tests to study for, math homework, my humanitarian speech and project/model/diarama. So, I better be off now.

We Are Slackers

Well, track today was nice, we had the choice of a 3 and 1/4 mile, a 2 mile no stopping at all, or 1.7ish miles (2800 meters, 7 laps around the track) Of course, I chose the shortest. It was fun, Natalie and I jogged/walked and slacked off. We ran and jogged about 2/3 of the time, but a lot of the time was spent walking and talking. I was not spared any soreness though, I suppose today's exercise added to my sore legs from yesterday was the cause of that because the workout was pretty light. Either way, I had trouble walking up the stairs to shower when I got home. Which reminds me, yesterday and today when I got out of the shower I was confronted with a small black spider fellow. Yesterday it freaked me out and I almost squished the little guy but decided not to, so when I saw it today I wasn't surprised. I shall name him Tiny. I feel kinda bad for the little spider, I mean, he's kind of lost upstairs in my bathroom. Oh well, I've got to go work on my project now. ^_^ Happy St. Patrick's Day!

And So It Continues

Today was the first day of track. I'm tired. Not super super exhausted and sore or anything, but it was a tiring practice. And these first couple of days are supposed to be easier. I'm sooo out of shape, I haven't been very active this year. I'm glad to be running again though. I think. I may have a different frame of mind later this week when practice starts getting a bit tougher. Anyway, I must be off as I'm going to go for a little walk with my mom and Winston, best dog ever to exist this side of ever. (I love my doggie) Also, I'm glad to welcome Laura to, for lack of a better description, our little circle of blogosphere writers. One of us, one of us!

So Much For Rest

I just got back from helping with the play clean up, which involved taking down the stage, organizing bins, cleaning, more organizing, getting rid of stuff, and those sorts of tasks. It was actually quite nice, I enjoy cleaning. But now I need to go get shorts and capris for track, figure out my idea for a project, fill out a cookie dough order form for our school fundraiser, and we were hoping to get to the creative escape pottery painting place this weekend to make something for my grandparents but we don't really have time for it now. This weekend's to-do list has been packed.

Fair Days Will Shine

Today's the last day of the long piratical journey that has been "The Pirates of Penzance" and I'm not going to lie, it's nice to wrap things up. I've really loved doing the play this year, it's been a load of fun, but it's also been a load of work and that's something I'm glad to be done with. I'm hoping the performances go well tonight as they did for the most part yesterday, which I'm sure they will. On another note I'm starting track on Monday which I'm greatly looking forward to. It'll be nice to do some running and get into better shape, plus it seems like a lot of people are doing it this year so I'll be able to spend time with friends. I need to go shopping this weekend for some running shorts and capris tomorrow, maybe some new shoes also because my current pair are getting a bit ragged. Anyway, I'm off to get ready for the performance. I'm not sure about call time, I hope it's at 3:00 because that's when I'll be there by. I guess I'll find out soon.

Super Trouper

Well, it's March, and I still can't wait for this cold weather to go away. :)
So, we've got the play performance coming on Friday the 13th and Saturday the 14th, and the understudy show on Wednesday. I'm really looking forward to it. I think the costumes are going to end up pretty fun and crazy, mainly the pirate garb. Also, we've been having ISTEP testing this week at school, and it has been fairly... boring. Anyway, all I do is eat and sleep and sing... and go to school. For the most part that is. And now I'm off to watch some good old American Idol to mix it up a bit!

Abstract Ideas

I'm still sickish. But I guess I have to go to school tomorrow. I can't breathe through my nose though. :( On a more positive note, I did a large abstract painting today. The dimensions are 24 inches by 30 inches to be specific. I'm fairly happy with it. It's for the basement, which I hope will eventually be filled up with art. Anyway, I need to practice my flute now having put it off all weekend.

The New Friendship of Bonsai and Fern

Well, for those of you who may have noticed I wasn't at school today I have an awful sore throat and cough and congested nose. I also jabbed my upper gums/lip with a cereal straw yesterday, that sounds so strange I know, and now that wound is waaaaaay sore. I also seem to have an extremely bruised tailbone that has been hurting for the past two weeks. (the result of falling down the stairs for the umpteenth time) Eventually I'm just going to trip and break into a million pieces. Anyway, now that my poor health has been covered, I am otherwise quite well! Or at least my week was. We've had play practice each day afterschool and it hasn't been too boring. I've quite enjoyed the experience this year and I'm really looking forward to the final performance. Also last weekend I did some painting which was nice. I hope to accomplish some more this weekend also. Happy Friday! ^_^ One more thing, I cannot wait for the frigid weather of winter to be replaced with springtime! Spring is my absolute favorite season.

Huff Puff

Yay, for the National Junior Honor Society! ...I think. I suppose it'll be yay once I'm done with this packet we have to fill out and turn in for it and once I find out if I actually get to be a part of it. Also, I am going to run for NJHS office as vice-president! Whoo. We'll see how that goes. Having thought about it and considered and reconsidered I think it's a job I'd really enjoy doing. Anyway, it's late and I really should go to bed. Just felt like a quick update. G'night.

Nothing Much Here

Wellll, I figure it's high time I cranked out a post... however devoid of importance or interest it may be. ;D So, um, hmmm, let me seeeee... Not much has happened that could be posted about. The musical is going well I suppose, I've enjoyed being a pirate so far. Yesterday I made an ipod case out of duct tape, and I'm fairly happy with how it turned out. I'll post pictures later perhaps, along with some pictures of what I hope to create this weekend, a dress form made of duct tape and a somehow fashiony t-shirt. We'll see how that goes. Of course, I also have some homework and studying for tests, plus my outside reading book project. And now I'm off to gorge on tomato soup as I am super duper hungry.

Pie For Me

Today is January 23rd of 2009. Today is Friday. Today is National Pie Day. Yay for pie!

I'm so happy the weekend has finally come. Though it was only a four day week it seemed to drag along forever. And now I have one pumpkin and one blueberry pie to enjoy, which my mom made today for Pie Day. I may also make a chocolate pudding pie later this weekend. I also have my math children's book to do which is due on Tuesday. Honestly, why did the math teacher assign us a project where we have to convey algebra subjects to little kids? Strange. Anyway, mine is titled "Rob and the Magician" and it has practically no plot to it whatsoever. Coincidentally, Spencer has to write and put together a fully illustrated children's book in one of his classes too. I'm being recruited to draw the illustrations for his book because his teacher said they could ask a friend or family member to create the drawings. Maybe, it'll turn out really awesome and someday children all over the world will be reading an amazing book illustrated and partially written(as my mother and I also had to assist in the development of the story) by me. :D

Yet It Is Ironic

I asked the science teacher today if they were planning on letting us all watch the inauguration and she said she didn't think she'd be able to bear it. Apparently she's not much of an Obama supporter. (more proof from Natalie on that I believe) I mean, did her opposition to Obama perhaps play a part in not watching the inauguration in 5th period science? Anyway, gladly I was in social studies and we got to see a bit of the event. And of course, I watched recaps and stuff on the news when I got home. It's been a pleasant start to the school week (yay, no school on MLK day!) and I would have posted more but it's late. So maybe I'll post more tomorrow. Maybe.

Creative Headway

Well, yesterday I had the sewing machine out and made a few things and hopefully the creative flow shall continue today. Right now I'm off to play practice soon, but I'll update this post with what I created yesterday and some pictures when I get back. :D

Yes, Yes I Was Wrong! :D

Yay! Yay! Yay! No school tomorrow!!!! Is this great or what?! :D Thank you world. This shall be quite nice. And I'm thinking Starbucks tomorrow morning for sure. :) I really only thought we'd be having a two hour delay, but wow, man this is just great. It's especially wonderful as it comes with the weekend and Martin Luther King Day, I mean this is four straight days off!! This is so awesome.

It Can Only Go Up

Tomorrow we have the sweet sweet gift of a 2 hour delay. I'm very pleased, very pleased indeed. It's nice to have that extra time. Plus we'll likely be having another on Friday as it's going to be even colder, and then of course we also have no school on Monday for Martin Luther King Day. JOY, ELATION, BLISS, these are the only words that may describe my current state. :P

If Ever There Was A Snow Dance

Do forgive my lack of post. I've just been utterly boring recently... The play is going pretty well, I'm enjoying it so far. We are now reading Taming of The Shrew in language arts, and I'm finding it to be fairly interesting. Ummm, what else... gym is just as horrid as expected. (and it's not just because of my negative oulook) humfph* I really really wish tomorrow would be a snow day, or at least a two hour delay. But we all know that's not happening. 1 inch of snow? That's not gonna keep anyone from getting to school. :(

How Quickly Freedom Passes

Tomorrow it's back to school. sigh* Whyyyyyyy? :( I think my only actual quibble is with gym. I really really really don't want to go back to having gym. I hope it's not going to be as bad as I'm making it up to be in my head. Hopefully, it'll just end up being, although boring or depressing, at least somewhat bearable as it was before. I suppose it'll be fine. I'm going to miss the freedom of vacation time though. We get so used to it easily and then it's off to work again.

Making Time

Yay! Happy New Year! I know I'm late by a day but yesterday I was too tired to do anything. Staying up until about 5:30 in the morning is a dumb idea. ;) Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well in these first moments of the new year. Any resolutions? All I'm really trying for is to create more art, perfect my drawing and writing skills, and get active and healthy. I really want to work on the last one because my eating habits are atrocious, plus a little more exercise in my life wouldn't hurt either. Otherwise, that's about it for my self-improvement! On another somewhat saddening note, we only have today, tomorrow, and the next day left 'till we have to go back to school and work and learning. sniffle* :( Sorrow. Oh well. I'm really not looking forward to gym. shudder* Well, I'm off to make the best of what I have left now! :D Happy New Year!
